When I was packing to come home, I was mentally checking off the things that I needed to bring with me. I looked through my closet, quickly dismissing my winter coat, gloves, my hot head, anything and everything that is designed for warm weather. Why should I even consider bringing them when the most extreme weather that Washington sees is a couple inches of snow. Tops. As soon as I got here, I was quickly proved wrong in my knowledge of Everett weather. Church has been canceled twice, and I didn't leave the house for DAYS. My brothers and sisters finally dragged me out of the house, and here are the glorious results.
We decided that we were going to use our ingenuity and build an igloo. We brought recycle bins, shovels, and a cooler full of snacks down to the local elementary school where there was a whole field full of snow. This is a picture of the beginnings of it...
Our awesome neighbor, Rudy came over to help us fill up bins. We were so glad to have him help because filling, compacting, and hauling those bins was no easy task. So we'd all fill in the buckets, and then place them one brick at a time. Next, we'd take a bucket of loose snow and pack it into the cracks and crevices that were left. My Dad even meandered his way down to help us too! If he hadn't come, we probably wouldn't have finished because we couldn't reach the top towards the end there. It was HARD work, but after five hours, we finally finished.
Just as we were finishing the entrance arch, Heidi was packing in snow from the inside while my dad, Colby and I packed the snow on the outside.
The igloo actually did a pretty dang good job keeping us warm once we were in there. (we only lasted a couple minutes because we were so exhausted -- and cold) When you breathe in there for long enough it turned all hazy, making it difficult to take pictures...
Look! We all fit in there! (including the random child who didn't belong to us)
All in all, we had SO much fun! It's possible that I am still in a mild state of hypothermia, but it was all for a good cause, right?
